Loneliness in the Modern Age

"Loneliness is the price we have to pay for being born in this modern age, so full of freedom, independence, and our own egotistical selves" (pg 30, Sensei)

This quote from Kokoro is one of the most significant quotes that also happened to stand out to me when I was reading. This is because I believe that is very prevalent in our technological society. I defiantly believe that that technology today is the main reason that our society is so isolated. Especially, when it comes to social media we are the most isolated. I believe that as much as we think social media connects us because we are able to share our experiences with people and meet new people, it is actually helping us to grow father apart. Because of social media everyone lives behind a screen. There is no more face to face interactions and people are becoming more lonely because they are becoming less and less connected. I believe that in this modern age we are free to do what we want because we are independent, but because of this we are also less connected. I also believe that in this modern age because of the technology and the freedom and independence this all contributes to the augmentation of our egotism. Because we have the power to hind behind a screen by ourselves with know one else present we are able to do things that we would not do with people. It is the freedom and indolence that leads us to become we are better then other people. Because of this technology we think that we are together but we are actually alone. As we talk to people on line we hind behind screens and in that way e don't really truly know the person. This is why the main cause of loneliness in our society today is because of the freedom and indolence that we have that leads to this.
